Still Life

Words: Stephen Bennett Posted: 8 June, 2011

Knowing the history of Driza-Bone coats and its famous oilskin fabric, I was fascinated to find the images of the fabric and outerwear in this magnificent book Still Life. Still Life is a collection of incredible photos taken from the inside of the base hut used by Scott and Shackleton in their exploration of the Antarctic in the early 1900s. The photos capture the raw beauty of the scenery along with the materials and textures that have remained virtually untouched for a century.

Like these photographs and the land itself, Driza-Bone garments are made to endure. The oilskin fabric is densely woven, strong, breathable and water repellent, and offers comfort and protection in all outdoor activities, whether you’re in the city or the country. So let Driza-Bone take you out of today’s fast-moving world for a moment to pause and wonder at the tremendous challenges that men and women endured in exploring the breath-taking extremities of the planet. Still Life was published in 2010 and is available in all major book stores.
